Now I don’t quite remember the 1978’s Don starring Amitabh Bachchan, Zeenat Aman, Pran, as I had seen the movie long ago. So I don’t remember anything, and in that way this movie is somewhat new to me. And being new ofcourse means you can’t compare it with the original. This is fresh, and fresh things do look nice. And nice this movie is, as after coming out of the theatre if you still carry a smile means that you liked the movie. Allright straight into the plot. The Don (Shahrukh Khan) is a big gang’s leader. And the cops are after him. DCP Desilva (Played by Boman Irani) somehow manages to catch Don, and then starts his plan to nab the main leader of the gang (Singhania) by taking the help of Vijay (Shahrukh Khan), a Don look-alike, who gets into the the gang and starts to get all the info to Desilva. They then plan a raid on their place to nab all of them, but in all the action DCP DeSilva / Vardhaan dies, and leaves Vijay with the cops and the gang behind him. Its then a “Prove I’m innocent” case with Roma (Priyanka Chopra) helping him. So like all the stories it is a happy ending with Vijay proved innocent, the bad guy being caught, and Roma proposing to Vijay. Things look like ending the way they should, but no…the last twist to the story is what the whole thing is all about, “Don ka intezar to gyarah mulkon ki police kar rahi hain, lekin ek baat samajh lo, Don ko pakadna mushkil hi nahin, naamumkin hain.” And like Don says, he is impossible to catch, the ending is just that.
Shahrukh Khan was very good in the movie, I think he was the best actor right now who could do justice to this role of “Don”. And apart from Shahrukh Khan, Priyanka Chopra really did very well. She just keeps getting better and better. I liked her in Krrish and now her performance in this movie is quite good. Other than these two Boman Irani does his job well, but he doesn’t look that great in such roles. J (dot) Ashthana type roles suit better to him. Comic roles look good on him. Well maybe thats what I think. Arjun Rampal,Kareena Kapoor, Isha Koppikar, all have minor roles, with Arjun getting more time on screen. With not much scope for them in the movie it was like a what to say about them stuff. So overall the movie is having a good entertainment value. Should run well at the BO and please don’t compare it with the original, both are 28 years apart and 28 years are a lot. The movie gets the new generation look, and thats what is the best thing. Indian movies are now getting better in terms of presentation. The music, the camera angles, the action scenes all just look great. The way the shots are taken are just too good for Indian standards. And yes this movie is full of luxury/exotic cars, especially recent Mercedes-Benz models.
I give it 7.5 out of 10
