Underworld Awakening
Underworld Awakening

Release Date: 20 January
Directed by Måns Mårlind, Björn Stein
Starring: Kate Beckinsale, Sandrine Holt, Michael Ealy, India Eisley

Now ideally a film series, into its 4th installment, should be good, else it wouldn’t have lasted that long. Critics have slammed the Underworld series. But little do the movie studios care if it brings in almost $300m worldwide collection.

Ghost Rider: Spirit of Vengeance

Ghost Rider Spirit of Vengeance

Andrew Stanton, the director of 3 big Pixar hits: A Bug’s Life, Finding Nemo & WALL-E, comes up with his first live action film, John Carter. Based on a novel named A Princess of Mars, the movie is about how a guy named John Carter lands up on Mars and tries to save the local species from extinction. The trailer gave an impression that its one hell of a mashup between Star Wars, Avatar, 10,000 BC, and what not. But with a reputed direction at the helm, and some superb looking visual effects, John Carter could well be a good money making movie.

Based on a book of the same name, The Hunger Games is about a competition in which only one winner will survive and the winner shall have unlimited food supplies and other materialistic gains. Featuring some familiar names, The Hunger Games trailer looked good, but the script might not be good enough to impress the critics. Box office collections should prove to be good though.

Starring: Jason Biggs, Alyson Hannigan, Chris Klein, Thomas Ian Nicholas, Eddie Kaye Thomas, Seann William Scott, Tara Reid

The American Pie series needs no introduction, everyone has seen it, loved it, hated it, adored it, and probably many have even missed it. The spin-offs never really matched the original, and to make up for it, the whole original cast returns in American Reunion for a reunion at the East Great Falls. Might not match the fun of the first movie, but won’t harm to see the gang on screen once again and enjoy some more of the original gang.

Directed by Tim Burton

I haven’t even seen the trailer, but since it had Johnny Depp, Eva Green as star cast and Tim Burton as director, I didn’t bother thinking twice over adding it to the preview. Its based on a 60-70s gothic soap opera of the same name. Story is about a wealthy playboy who breaks the heart of a witch, who turns him into a vampire and buries him alive. Years later he is freed and returns to the manor. Sounds interesting. Can’t wait to see Johnny Depp as a vampire!

I loved the first G.I. Joe movie. And the trailer of the sequel looks kickass! What’s more, it now has  Dwayne Johnson AND Bruce Willis. How about that! The plot goes like this. Zartan, who is disguised as the US President, frames all the Joes as traitors and destroys most of them. The world is now under Cobra’s control. The Joes must now plan to come clean and stop Cobra.

The Amazing Spider-Man

The Amazing Spider-Man
The Amazing Spider-Man

Release Date: 3 July
Directed by Marc Webb
Starring: Andrew Garfield, Emma Stone, Rhys Ifans

Why on earth did Sony Pictures decide to reboot the Spider-Man series this early is beyond my understanding. Specially when the Spider-Man trilogy got them nearly $2.5 billion worldwide. Well who can ever stop the studios from doing what they want. They have decided to reboot the entire franchisee only 5 years since the last Spider-Man movie. Andrew Garfield replaces Tobey Maguire as Spider-Man. We all know about Spider-Man now, but probably the movie has a different way to show all that again. The trailer did generate quite a positive reaction from the fans. So maybe Sony has got it right. Lets see when it comes out.

THE movie of the year. THE most awaited feature film. THE one which has sent everyone into unbearable wait for the release. The final installment of the legendary Batman under Chris Nolan’s direction is here. Batman Begins was superb, The Dark Knight was monumental, the Dark Knight Rises can only be colossal. The trailer has already created a wave of awe. Everyone who has seen it can’t stop praising it. And the movie is yet to be seen! I can’t wait to see the epic conclusion. After the death of Harvey Dent, Batman takes responsibility of crimes done by Dent/Two-Face and is under hunt by the Gotham police. But 8 years after, Batman must arrive again to prevent Bane (Tom Hardy) from destroying the town. Also in the movie is Catwoman (Anne Hathaway).

The story resumes after the conclusion of The Bourne Ultimatum, as a new cast of characters grapple with the consequences of Jason’s actions. Directed by Bill Condon
Starring: Kristen Stewart, Robert Pattinson, Taylor Lautner

Yes! Yes! Finally the movie has arrived. Been waiting for it since the series began! Finally I won’t have to bear the sight of the movie ever again. Phew! Some riddance this. I don’t care about the storyline, just that I didn’t like the 20-30 minutes of what I saw, and the lead characters bore me out, so just like those millions who hate this movie, the only reason they are looking forward to the movie is because its the final installment in the Twilight series.

Gangster Squad

Release Date: 19 October
Directed by Ruben Fleischer
Starring: Ryan Gosling, Emma Stone, Sean Penn, Josh Brolin, Anthony Mackie, Giovanni Ribisi, Michael Peña

Trailer isn’t out yet, storyline says “A chronicle of the LAPD’s fight to keep East Coast Mafia types out of Los Angeles in the 1940s and 50s.” Very little to judge from it, but considering the talented cast, I’d definitely want to watch this one.

Quite an interesting story this one. And with a Academy Award winning director at the helm and a good actor in the movie, Javier Bardem, I expect it to be a lot better than the previous one, Quantum of Solace.

Les Miserables

Jean Valjean (Hugh Jackman), a Frenchman imprisoned for stealing bread, must flee from police Inspector Javert (Russell Crowe). The pursuit consumes both men’s lives, and after two decades on the run, Valjean finds himself in the midst of the 1832 June Rebellion in Paris.

The Hobbit An Unexpected Journey
The Hobbit An Unexpected Journey

Lord of the Rings was a marvel to watch. This based on the same characters, although with some key people missing, and virtually no war scenes, it still looks good by looking at the trailer.

Directed by Marc Forster
Starring: Brad Pitt, Mireille Enos, James Badge Dale, Lucy Aharish, Julia Levy-Boeken

a U.N. Employee ( Brad Pitt) who scours the world, interviewing survivors of the Zombie apocalypse, referred to as World War Z . Its a movie about zombies, nuclear war, and more war related stuff. We’ll probably know more when the first trailer is out. The movie is already said to be a trilogy, so in that sense the movie is a bit more anticipated. An interesting fact is that UTV Motion Pictures is associated with the movie.

The Great Gatsby

Release Date: 25 December

I’m really looking forward to this movie solely because of the starcast. Its a romantic drama adaptation from a novel of the same name.
