I love the way Pixar gives life to concepts like Ratatouille. The most important factor in any animated movie is that there should be a good story and an equally impressive set of characters who look realistic and believing. Ratatouille is another of the Pixar animated films and clearly among the best.

The movie revolves around a rat who loves to cook, and ever since he reads the phrase “Anyone can cook” he knows he’s got to cook. His idol Gusteau has influenced him enough for him to forget that he’s a rat who can’t cook. So he somehow gets to Gusteau’s famous restaurant. And he cooks a soup, and Linguini looks what the rat did. And from then on its a great ride on. Lots of interesting scenes and a great storyline unfolds. Its really a wonderfully created environment and you are really immersed in the virtual things in the movie. The relationship between the human and the rat is the main idea around the movie along with the phrase “Everyone can cook”

All the characters are very good, the rat Rémy and Linguini are both impressive. The storyline is good. The main thing was the animation, it was really very good. DreamWorks Animation also had a rats based movie last year, Flushed Away. But Ratatouille is a bit better than Flushed Away.

Overall I rate it as a pretty good movie, definitely among the best animated ones I’ve seen. Its a refreshing movie, not very complicated or anything, lovely animation. Just about perfect for a Pixar animation film.

Rating 8.5/10

Winamp 5.5: 10th Anniversary Edition

October 16th, 2007

Winamp Main Window

I casually went to www.winamp.com to look for a lyrics plugin but to my surprise there was this new version of Winamp, which surprisingly the inbuilt update feature didn’t notify me about. Anyways the screen shot of the player grabbed my attention in an instant. It looks great, really. Its a “10th Anniversary Edition” with the version Winamp 5.5.

Winamp Media Library

It was released on October 10, 2007, I got it last night. A 8.21 MB download for the basic free version, which is what you need actually. There are two more bundles, one with an additional video and other the paid “Pro” version which I don’t need thank you very much. Anyways I downloaded it last night and installed it. The installer has also been changed a bit, its now a 3 point installation. It also comes with a new skin now, dubbed “Bento”, which looks great in the default black. A “Completely Redesigned Interface”, it has now a better font and stuff for the media library and has bigger height by default, good thing, although the playlist is now a bit too small a window, you can ofcourse change that. Moving back to the media library, it now has a album art view, those who don’t know what it is, album art means the cover of the album. So if your music file has an album cover in it, it will show on the player, and also on the song notification if u turn it on. It even lets u update album art and media information for the file, didn’t try it out much, as I tried it on only one file which didn’t get updated.

Anyways, its a great rework and my favorite audio player just got better.

October 3rd, 2007

IMDb just keeps on getting better and better. They’ve now added a new feature which lets you search for characters from a movie, say you wanna know who all played a certain character from a movie, so it will give a list of the actors who have played the character. Though not everytime you need to search for a character, but when you need to, you know where you have to look.

Indians are really flying high, I was like shocked when I read this piece of news on rediff.com, its about Mukesh Ambani becoms a trillionaire!!! Really amazing…Indians are gaining a strong foothold amongst the richest people.

“Ambani’s cumulative wealth based on his promoter holding in group companies, led by India’s most valued firm RIL, rose to Rs 2,04,945 crore (Rs 2,049.45 billion) at the close of Tuesday’s trading, consolidating his position as the richest Indian businessman.

Om Shanti Om Music Review

September 18th, 2007

Om Shanti Om poster
Diwali blockbusters are usually BIG, and everything associated with it is BIG too. Like Om Shanti Om, has a pretty big album, atleast in terms of number of tracks, 12 tracks in all. Vishal-Shekhar chalks out another hit album for the Shah Rukh Khan & Deepika Padukone starrer directed by Farah Khan titled Om Shanti Om. The last time Farah Khan teamed with SRK, Main Hoon Na was a BIG hit, both the movie and the music. So lot of expectations from this one as well. Read more…
