Partner Movie Poster

Directed by David Dhawan
Produced by Sohail Khan
Starring Salman Khan, Govinda, Lara Dutta, Katrina Kaif, Rajpal Yadav

I wasn’t to keen to watch this movie initially, I didn’t know it was a David Dhawan movie. But I’m glad I went. Boy what a movie it was! A funny entertaining movie. It was a typical David Dhawan movie with lots of hilarious moments and lots of laughs, one of the best brainless comedies from him. Govinda and Salman were too good in the movie. Salman looked pretty much like Prem in No Entry, same style and things. Govinda I saw on big screen after a looooong time, and I was impressed. He is still as funny as he was in Raja Babu. Actressess, man! Lara Dutta & Katrina Kaif were too hot and sexy! Lara especially, as I’m not too big a Katrina fan. Both did a fine job with their roles, Lara much better than Kat. Rajpal Yadav as always was very hilarious and managed to leave a mark yet again even with such a small role. Ali Haji, the young kid who played the role of Rohan’ Lara’s son, impressed me bigtime. Boy that dude has got some style and stuff. He definitely did a great job.

Music wise I loved two tracks, “You’re My Love” and “Soni De Nakhre”. The rest of the tracks weren’t so bad, “Do U Wanna Partner” was a catchy song, “Dupatta Tera Nau Rang Da” & “Maria Maria” were just about OK. Decent music overall. Sajid-Wajid did a good job with the music, it did blend with the movie on some occasions. Costumes were too good, and especially the song “You’re My Love” had fantastic dresses and a superb choreography from the choreographers. Salman’s outfit were great, even Lara had some superb outfits. A very stylish song with lots of ooze.
So to sum it up, a very stylish movie with lots of fun and laughter. The first half is a laugh riot, second too has the fun element present, but some unnecessary plot changes made it a big off track, but still deserves to get 8.5 from me, thanks to the entertainment value. Its a comedy and you don’t really look for scripts and plots here, its fun which you want from the movie, and that it gives in plenty.

Premier League 2007-08 Preview

Premier League Logo

The sixteenth season of top flight English football begins the next weekend, the 11th of August 2007, when the English premier league kicks off one of the most interesting seasons of premiership. Its been a big spending transfer season, and teams like Manchester United and Liverpool have now started to match Chelsea in the spending department. Chelsea interestingly didn’t do much on the big money deals but still managed to get some quality players in free transfers. But it was United and Liverpool who grabbed the limelight with big deals involving some big names like Torres, Nani, Anderson, Hargreaves and that much controversial deal of Tevez . Defending Champions Manchester United will be fighting to win the tenth Premier League title, with Chelsea, Liverpool and Arsenal trying to stop that from happening.

The pre season is always an exiting time for any club, new players coming in, some going out, new kits, new sponsors, lots of new things. Clubs have high hopes from a new season, the new players bring that fresh feeling, and then you always feel that this is your season to do and improve over last season. Not every club is able to do that, some fail, some succeed and some just about does it to satisfy the board and the fans. Lets see then whom do we feel will succeed and who will not.

Rhain Davis – The new prodigy at Manchester United

August 3rd, 2007

These days one kid is attracting the media’s attention. Rhain Davis.

Now first watch this video:
http://youtube.com/watch?v=hG47FDenyXw

Now you must be awestruck at the stuff this young kid does. Stepovers, 360s, dribbles like a pro, I mean no wonder Manchester United invited this nine-year-old to the academy. He’s already being said as the next “Wayne Rooney”. The kid’s grandpa send a DVD of Davis playing with an Under-10 team in Australia to Manchester United who were impressed and invited him all the way from Australia to England.

A lot is being said about the young lad, but its a big test for him to take, and only if he manages to pass the tests and survives in the football world. He will have to pass the annual cut and then earn a full time scholarship at age 12. And if he does that, who knows we might see him someday playing at Old Trafford! Good Luck kid! The world is watching you.

Nike Total 90 Laser

July 31st, 2007

I went to the mall on Sunday, and I saw that Nike had some new range of football boots. The new Total 90, Tiempo, the Ronaldinho 10R, (the Mercurial were still missing) and amongst them there was one which attracted special attention from me. They were the T90 Lasers!!!

Here is the official word about it:
“The Nike Total 90 Laser is the new boot choice of England and Manchester United”s Wayne Rooney, creating a revolutionary enhancement of the Total 90 series.

Applying the learning from sports like golf or tennis, the expanded Sweet Spot on the Nike Total 90 Laser allows the athlete to maximise shooting and passing accuracy through better boot to ball alignment and targeting.

Unique precision rings create optimum trajectrory, spin and distance control. Twisted medial rings provide more agggressive contact, enhancing ball spin and swerve opportunities.”

I could recognize those bright yellow boots anywhere! I just went and picked it up in my hands and boy it was amazing! I’ve been viewing the Nike site quite often of late and saw the new boots there, but never thought when I would ever see it in real, but there it was. I was delighted to see and touch them! It had amazing quality finish, the sole had a good pack of studs and blades. The uppers were just oozing quality. Awesome sweet spot, I wish I could have them, but the price tag was way beyond my reach. Anyways was a great boot to have a look at.

Please do visit the Nike site for more cool videos and stuff about the T90s. The “Put it where you want it” Video is great, with the kick showed in various angles. Do watch it!

Shrek the Third Review

June 15th, 2007

Shrek The Third Poster

Directed by Chris Miller, Raman Hui (co-director)
Produced by Jeffrey Katzenberg, Aron Warner
Starring Mike Myers, Cameron Diaz, Eddie Murphy, Antonio Banderas, Julie Andrews, John Cleese, Rupert Everett, Eric Idle, Justin Timberlake
Music by Harry Gregson-Williams
Distributed by DreamWorks

The wait was finally ogre (over) as Shrek the Third was released here. I enjoyed watching the earlier two movies so I was waiting to watch this as well. Although I saw it late, but better late than never.

The movie continues at Far Far Away, with Shrek and Fiona now the acting King and Queen of Far Far Away. Shrek ofcourse doesn’t enjoy the royal things and misses his swamp. So he must find Arthur, his nephew to be the new king as King Harold has died. Meanwhile Prince Charming gathers all the villains to fight the good guys at Far Far Away. Shrek also comes to know that he going to become a father soon, and he is shocked and surprised but eventually starts to be happy about it. The villains have taken over the kingdom, and Shrek must now fail Charming’s plans. So Shrek does that with the help of Donkey, Puss, and Fiona and her friends.

The movie was similar to the earlier ones. Shrek was still at his ogre-ist best, Donkey was still annoying and Puss was still charming. All the characters were quite good. The movie had lots of funny moments and was well liked by the viewers in the theater. Although the movie was not really a mind blowing experience, but animated movies are meant for some funny moments, humor and having a nice and light time.  The movie was quite short, 92 minutes in all.

DreamWorks have already announced their plans to continue the series with Shrek 4 & 5 to be made as well. Lets see what Shrek and gang gets into this time. Till then, have a happily ever after.

Goal Preview

June 15th, 2007

Goal movie poster

Directed by Vivek Agnihotri
Produced by Ronnie Screwvala
Starring John Abraham, Anil Kapoor, Bipasha Basu, Naveen Andrews, Arshad Warsi & Boman Irani
Distributed by UTV Motion Pictures

I was surprised when I read that a movie named “Goal” was being made in Bollywood! Its really reflects the changing face of Bollywood. Indian viewers are viewing offbeat films now, and lots of small budgets and offbeat films are doing well here. But then in the recent past lots of movies were made on sports, nearly all were based on cricket. None of them managed to have a good day at the box office. So this raises another question, why to make a movie on sports again, and that too football which isn’t a really popular sport among the masses!

But said that, I still welcome such a film. In a cricket mad nation its really heartening to see someone coming up with a movie based on my favorite sport…football. I love the game more than I love any other sport. And this movie is based on the Hollywood movie Goal released in 2005. I loved that movie, and I was really exited to see someone willing to make such a film. But lets see how they capture the emotions, the glory of the game.  John Abraham plays the lead in the movie, I suppose John will do well with the role he has. But its the direction and the story I’m worried about. If they manage to make it like it should be its really a milestone for Bollywood. Cricket is on a decline in India now, sports like tennis, football and motor-racing are taking the center stage. Movies like Goal can really help in creating awareness and respect for such sports which are big in other countries, especially in Europe. So I’m waiting eagerly for this movie, and I hope it lives upto my expectations.

The release date for the movie is yet to be announced.

Ahoy matey! Me has been waiting for this movie for long time coming, and finally me watches it and I’m glad to say it was good. Pirates of the Caribbean is among my favorite movies, I really loved the prequels, Pirates of the Caribbean: The Curse of the Black Pearl and Pirates of the Caribbean: Dead Man’s Chest, and I was waiting for the final installment ever since it was known that “At World’s End” will follow the Dead Man’s Chest, and like I mentioned in my Pirates of the Caribbean: At World’s End Preview, the way Dead Man’s Chest had ended, it left a lot of questions unanswered, so this really made this movie a must watch.

Need for Speed: ProStreet

June 1st, 2007

Need for Speed: ProStreet logo

Its official now, the game has a name. Like I promised in my earlier post about the game, here it is. The game will be known as “Need for Speed: ProStreet”. The eleventh title in the hugely successful Need for Speed series, is again a street racing game, without cops as things look right now. ProStreet will use the “Autosculpt™” feature available in Need for Speed: Carbon, but of course more advanced than the predecessor. Like EA says “Every dent, every scratch and every crumpled body panel is a battle scar, proof of your commitment and competitive mettle. ” So I guess the game should have lots of damage visible to the car whenever there is a crash. Game AI is improved to make racing more fun. Performance and looks are going to be much more customizable.

“Need for Speed ProStreet accelerates street racing culture by providing the ultimate stage for the pursuit of street racing supremacy,” said Executive Producer, Larry LaPierre. “This is a game about building the ultimate performance-tuned battle machine, taking it to multi-disciplinary showdowns all over the world and pitting your skills and reputation against the very best street racers.” So like Larry LaPierre puts it, this game should have what Underground and Carbon had and much more. Still some more details are awaited about the other features and of course what exotics are going to be featured this time, but Mazda RX-7 is one car surely in the game as it was also featured in the teaser trailer. I will keep posting more as I find them, so watch this space.
